Harry Potter was written in THIRD person limited! →

playoninfiniterepeat:

margotgentry:

playoninfiniterepeat:

That’s why we don’t get to know what’s happening beyond who Harry knows or what he sees. That’s why not every race, religion, or sexual preference was mentioned. That’s why we only hear good things about Lily because most of who Harry talked to were friends of Lily. That’s why we don’t know whatwas going on in every corner of the castle during the Battle of Hogwarts hence not knowing if there were more people— not just the professors, students, and the OoTP— who fought against Voldemort.

So stop complaining! Jo can only write so much without deviating from the story itself. Why can’t just everyone enjoy the book as it is written? Or at least think before complaining! UGH.

I do not disagree with what is written up there, I’m just…expanding on it.

When we studied narrative styles in school - pardon me, when I studied them in school, I can’t speak for everyone here - I was taught that the above is the exact reason why we cannot trust everything that is written in a story. It’s the reason why we analyze literature, why we think about it, dissect it, tear it to pieces and then spit it out again in five part essay form - or in today’s culture, in fanfiction form. The way it was written does not mean it is perfect as is - though I agree, we should still be able to appreciate it at its face value. No, the way it was written is what gives us license to do what we do everyday, as fans. To think for ourselves. To use our imaginations. To take what we were told and question it.

There is nothing wrong with thinking she could have done some things differently. There is nothing wrong with wondering if Harry or Lily or James were really all they were cracked up to be. There is nothing wrong with taking a book you and I love and acknowledging that we do love it for how it was written - but that we are also allowed to say it is imperfect because of how it was written and love it despite, or even because of, those imperfections.

This is true respect for literature: appreciating what one is told and yet learning to question it at the same time. This is called thinking for oneself and I’m pretty sure she would want us to at least do that, to have at least learned that from her and from Harry.

Because I like civil conversations with people on here. We can discuss opinions with each other without being rude.

Also, I stand corrected. It’s third person limited. I fail. =| Thanks to trapeze-swinger for pointing that out.

Dear MTV,

My god you just can’t help yourselves, can you? Do you always always have to include Twilight and make excuses for why Bella and Edward’s not part of the Forbe’s list?! Seriously.

And wtf’s with those tags?

I love her tag on this entry: #remember that time when MTV wasn’t such a sellout and so biased? I miss those days too.

MTV has long lost it’s credibility, to be honest.

JK Rowling didn’t influence her at all. If she did, SMeyer would at least have published half a decent book than that abomination called Twilight.

I do these for fun.: Getting this off my chest. →

moonlightning:

So here’s the thing, I try to ignore it when people complain about changing certain scenes in all the Harry Potter movies, deleting some and sometimes having the script too far from the book. What I can’t stand though is how people complain about the casting of the “kids”. I mean what the fuck…

I actually know people who are like this.

Reblogging because it speaks the truth.

adifferentkindofpain asked: Harry Potter does not need awards to prove its worth. My goodness, why do these people think material things can determine the superiority of something?
